Polyurethane Resins for Inkjet Inks

The polyurethane resins within our product portfolio are designed for solvent-based continuous inkjet ink applications.

  • The resins are categorized based on their specific functions and chemical makeup.
  • These products are medium molecular weight, flexible non-reactive polyurethane polymers with excellent film forming characteristics.
  • All substances listed below have been pre-registered with REACH.
  • All film forming polyurethanes listed are clear with a color of 3 max on the Gardner scale and contain 0% free NCO.
The resin in this category can be used to make an inkjet ink using a dispersible dye or pigment and an acrylic resin as the co-resin.  Acrylic co-resins Kane recommends are B-66 or Joncryl 682 depending on solvent requirements.  B-66 should be reduced in MEK and Joncryl 682 should be reduced in alcohol.

Solvent MDI Aromatic Semi Film Former. The softest of the Solvent MDI Aromatic Semi-Film Formers.  A semi-film forming nitrocellulose plasticizer and adhesion promoter for lamination applications. SDS TDS

 

Resins in this category can be used to make an inkjet ink with nitrocellulose or an acrylic resin.  Better processing and increased solubility can be attained by adding KPLAST 1044 if needed.

Solvent MDI Aromatic Semi Film Former. Hard, high molecular weight resin.  Shares similar properties with KP 1039 but modified with aliphatic isocyanate to achieve better ethanol solubility. SDS TDS
KPLAST 8143 1200 – 1800 73% 20.8% ETAC
6.2% ETOH
Solvent MDI Aromatic Semi Film Former. Harder than KP 1039, alcohol dilutable and acetate soluble. SDS TDS

 

Resins in this category can be used with nitrocellulose.  These resins offer increased alcohol resistance and also give better processing and resolubility for inkjet ink systems.
